Connect Claude (MCP)
EditAI includes a small MCP server, editai-mcp, inside the app bundle at EditAI.app/Contents/MacOS/. It speaks stdio and is launched by Claude Desktop or Claude Code on your Mac. Nothing is hosted, and there is no account or API key.
Connect it
In EditAI, click Connect Claude, then either:
- Add to Claude Desktop. EditAI merges the server into
claude_desktop_config.jsonand keeps a.bakcopy of the original. Restart Claude Desktop afterwards. - Copy the command for Claude Code:
claude mcp add editai -- "/Applications/EditAI.app/Contents/MacOS/editai-mcp"Ask for an edit
Keep a project open in EditAI, then in Claude try:
Edit my open EditAI project: cut to whoever is speaking, use the wide for transitions, and remove dead air.
The server also provides an edit_video prompt. The cuts appear in the timeline as Claude saves them, as one undoable step.
What Claude can call
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
get_project | The cameras (letters A, B, C), where each starts, which carries the sound, and the length. |
get_transcript | Numbered sentences with pause markers, for a time or sentence range. |
get_frames | One picture: a row per moment, a column per camera. |
set_angle_note | Remember what a camera shows ("wide", "host close-up"). |
get_edit | The current shots and removed gaps, to build on what you did by hand. |
set_edit | Switch points ("from here show camera B") and ranges to remove. |
auto_cut | The offline first pass, saved as an edit. |
remove_silences | Ripple-delete pauses, keeping the camera choices. |
list_projects | The projects it can see. |
Privacy
The server runs locally. Claude receives the transcript text it asks for and the stills it requests, and that is handled under the assistant's own terms. Prefer to keep everything on your Mac? Use Auto-cut. See your data.
